Doran-Lista Will Start Fifth Tomorrow Night at
the Glen
WATKINS
GLEN, N.Y., Aug. 12 - The Doran-Lista team and drivers
Didier Theys
and Jan Magnussen plan to head to the front tomorrow night
in the Sahlen's 200
at the Glen Rolex series race at Watkins Glen International.
Both
drivers ran laps under the existing qualifying and fastest-race-lap
records here in practice Thursday. Qualifying was rained
out Thursday afternoon,
however, and the starting line-up was determined by team
points. That puts
the Lebanon, Ohio-based team fifth on the grid. Theys
will start the
200-mile/82-lap race, with Magnussen scheduled to bring
the Doran-Lista DORAN
JE4 Lexus #27 home at the finish.
Heavy
rain is predicted tomorrow and the race is being held
on Friday the
13th, but hopes are still very high in the Doran-Lista
camp thanks to excellent
results in practice here Thursday.
Most
of the day's sessions were held under rainy conditions
or at least a
damp track. If NASCAR Nextel Cup qualifying should be
rained out, the Rolex
series race may be moved up on the schedule, which right
now shows a starting time
of approximately 6 p.m. and a finishing time of 8:30 p.m.
With
one minute to go in the first practice session Thursday
morning the team
topped the charts, but at the last minute one other competitor
ran a faster
lap to push the team to second with a 1:28.898 (120.991
mph) for the Glen's
"short" course, which measures 2.45 miles and
contains 11 turns.
In
the second session the team was even faster, leading a
great deal of the
session and running a 1:08.982 (127.859 mph) lap for fourth
overall at the end.
The
team didn't go out for the third practice session; only
four of the 33
entries recorded a time in that one. After making some
additional changes late
Thursday afternoon and early Friday evening, the team
did three laps as just a
shake-down run in the one-hour evening practice session,
turning a 1:31.424
to end the day.
The
qualifying record here is a 1:11.446 (123.450 mph) and
the fastest
race-lap record here is held by Terry Borcheller in another
DORAN JE4 at 1:10.699 (
124.754 mph).
Theys
and Magnussen finished fifth in a six-hour race here June
20.
Tomorrow
night's race will be broadcast on a same-day/tape-delayed
basis on
SPEED at 10 p.m. Eastern.

Quotes
follow:
Didier
Theys: "We did a dramatic change with the set-up
after Mid-Ohio, and
the car is working much better. So far, so good."
Jan
Magnussen: "The car is the best it's been today than
it's been ever since
I have driven it. The potential is there to have a podium
finish, that's for
sure."
Kevin
Doran: "It sure is a lot more fun to be in the top
three than near the
end of the first 10."
