Doran Racing
Montermini to Co-Drive with Theys at VIR, Barber
In Doran-Lista DORAN JE4 Lexus #27
LEBANON,
Ohio, Sept. 24 - Doran-Lista Racing, which recorded a
very popular
victory in the Sahlen's 200 at Watkins Glen International
in Watkins Glen, N.Y.
on Aug. 13, announced its drivers' line-up today for the
remaining three
Grand American Rolex series races of 2004.
Team
owner Kevin Doran said former Formula 1 driver Andrea
Montermini will
join lead driver Didier Theys behind the wheel of the
Doran-Lista DORAN JE4
Lexus #27 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton,
Va. Oct. 1-3 and at Barber
Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. on Oct. 8-10.
Another
ex-F1 driver, Jan Magnussen, is scheduled to co-drive
with Theys at
the season finale at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
Oct. 28-31.
Magnussen and Theys were the drivers for the team's recent
victory at the Glen.
Montermini,
a 40-year-old Italian from Modena, Italy and Monte Carlo,
Monaco,
had 28 Formula 1 starts from 1994 through 1996. His best
F1 finish was an
eighth in Germany in 1994. He has driven in the CART FedEx
champ car series,
and he also has successful results at Le Mans and the
Rolex 24.
Montermini
is not new to Doran Racing. He drove the Doran-prepared
MOMO
Ferrari to three victories in 1997, winning at Lime Rock,
Pikes Peak and an
October race at Sebring, Fla. with co-driver Antonio Hermann.
They took five poles
that year, and Montermini recorded six fastest race laps.
They were second at
Laguna Seca and also posted two thirds at Road Atlanta
and Las Vegas.
Last
year at VIR Theys and Bill Auberlen led every single practice
session in
the Doran-Lista DORAN JE4 Lexus #27. The car started sixth
in class and
finished fifth in class after an incident with a car Theys
was lapping. It also
set the fastest race lap when Auberlen took just 1:48.850
to cover the
3.27-mile, 17-turn road course.
Another
DORAN JE4, the one fielded by Bell Motorsports, won the
event and
took the points lead enroute to eventually winning last
year's championship.
The
preliminary schedule for the VIR weekend shows the Doran-Lista
DORAN JE4
Lexus #27 on the track for practice beginning at 9:50
a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1
and continuing until 11:20 a.m. Another practice session
is slated for 2:10
p.m. that day.
There
is a one-hour practice session at 10 a.m. on Saturday,
Oct. 2 followed
by qualifying for the Daytona Prototypes at 1:05 p.m.
that day.
On
race day, Sunday, Oct. 3, there is a warm-up session at
9:40 a.m. prior to
the VIR 400 beginning at 1 p.m. The event's length is
400 km, 77 laps or two
hours and 45 minutes.
The
race is scheduled to be broadcast live on SPEED beginning
at noon Eastern
time.
