Doran-Lista Has Uncharacteristic Engine Trouble
Sunday in VIR 400 Rolex Series Race

ALTON, Va., Oct. 3 - The VIR 400 presented by SunTrust was far too short for
the Doran-Lista team Sunday at Virginia International Raceway, as the team
experienced uncharacteristic engine problems early in the event. The Doran-Lista
DORAN JE4 Lexus #27 ended up 17th in the Daytona Prototype class and 37th
overall in the final rundown.

The car's engine blew on lap 15 of the 75-lap race, which was televised live
on SPEED. Didier Theys of Scottsdale, Ariz. was in the car at the time. His
co-driver for this race, Andrea Montermini of Modena, Italy, will have to wait
until next weekend's race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala.
before he can drive the car in an actual Rolex series event.

"The engine went with no warning," Theys said. "I spun in my own oil. There
was smoke everywhere, but no fire. I got back to the pits but there was no
oil pressure. At first we thought it might be just a broken oil line, but it
was the engine."

Team owner Kevin Doran said the problem involved the variable cam timing
mechanism.

Although a DORAN JE4 won this race last year, it was a difficult day for all
the Doran teams. The Bell Motorsports DORAN JE4 Pontiac had the best finish
Sunday, placing seventh. The Michael Shank Racing DORAN JE4 Lexus and the G&W
Motorsports DORAN JE4 BMW were involved in a nasty crash, but luckily no one
was hurt.

The next Rolex series race is next weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in
Birmingham, Ala.
