Brian Frisselle Ready For Road America Return

Elkhart Lake, Wis. (21 June 2011) – Brian Frisselle returns to Road America for the first time in seven years as the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal makes its first visit since 2001 to the historic, 14-turn road course for the Rolex Sports Car Series 250 Driven by VISIT FLORIDA.

While Frisselle has never competed at the four-mile road course behind the wheel of a Daytona Prototype, the Colorado racer gained years of experience racing formula car machinery at the Wisconsin road course during the early part of his career. Running in Skip Barber National Championship, Star Mazda, and Formula BMW competition, Frisselle netted his first FBMW podium at Road America and earned nine top-10 finishes in 11 starts at the Elkhart Lake circuit in the three categories.

Frisselle is eager to return to the track that saw him earn such strong results as a young racer in the early stages of his career – this time with the No. 77 Doran Racing Daytona Prototype in hopes of claiming his first Road America victory.

“Road America was always a track I’ve enjoyed racing on and it’s great to be headed back there this weekend,” said Frisselle, who owns 4 Rolex Series victories. “It’s a great course and was certainly good to me when I was climbing the racing ladder so hopefully my experience there will help us get the No. 77 up front. Obviously, it will be quite different in a Daytona Prototype, but I’m really looking forward to being back and experiencing the track in a DP.”

The Doran Racing team battled rainy conditions at Watkins Glen which led to a radio system malfunction and communication issues throughout the six-hour event, but the team rallied to a sixth place finish. Frisselle and co-driver Henri Richard look to rid themselves of the gremlins that have seemed to plague the team over the last two races and land a spot on the Road America podium.

“We just really haven’t had luck on our side,” offered Frisselle of the last two GRAND-AM outings. “Hopefully everything comes together this weekend and we can turn our luck around and put the Office Depot car up front.”

Frisselle and Richard return to on-track action Wednesday, June 22 for a promoter test day followed by official practice on Thursday. Qualifying will take place Friday afternoon with the 2-hour race set to begin Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 AM local time.

The Rolex Sports Car Series 250 Driven by VISIT FLORIDA will air live on SPEED at 12:00 PM (ET).
