Doran Racing's Jaeger Qualifies Ninth, Farano 19th at Sebring

SEBRING, Fla., March 13 — Doran Racing's Brad Jaeger earned the ninth starting position for tomorrow's IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Sebring International Raceway during qualifications at that 17-turn, 3.74-mile road course Thursday afternoon with the team's #14 Nissan NISMO 370Z RC.

Jaeger, of Charlottesville, Va., was only 0.067 of a second off fourth place in the qualifying session, which saw a BMW take the pole and three Camaros qualify in the top five. Trying to save his tires on the bumpy track because each car must start the race on the tires with which it qualified, Jaeger only ran three laps in the 15-minute session.  His fastest lap was the last one, when he was timed in 2:16.683 for an average speed of 98.505 miles per hour.

Jaeger shares that Nissan with Cincinnati's BJ Zacharias.

"It was a pretty good qualifying session," Jaeger said afterwards.  "Just 0.07 of a second would have moved us up to fourth, which shows you how competitive this series is. I think I could have improved that time a little bit if I'd stayed out there, but I wanted to save our tires. Tire management is going to be one of the keys to tomorrow's race. We were the highest-qualifying Nissan, it was the fastest we've run here so far this week and it was a decent showing.

"I want to thank the Doran Racing crew for their hard work, because we lost fifth gear in practice yesterday and they worked hard to put in a new transmission and get the car ready for qualifying," Jaeger added.

The Lebanon, Ohio-based team's other Nissan NISMO 370Z RC, the Tower Events #41, will start 19th in the 61-car race, as John Farano put that machine firmly in the field with a 2:19.923 (96.224 mph). That lap came on his fourth of six trips around the historic track during the qualifying session. Farano qualified just behind professional racer Boris Said, who has NASCAR experience and a sports car career that dates back 27 years.

Farano, of Toronto, shares his Nissan with David Empringham, also of Toronto.

Farano had to sprint from one challenge to the next, as he only had 15 minutes between CTSCC qualifying and a Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series race in which he also competed. He made it from the Doran paddock to the false grid in time for the Lamborghini race though.

The #41 posted the fastest lap run by the team in practice this week, as it was timed in 2:18.027 on its ninth of 15 laps in the second practice session on Wednesday. The #14 also got into the 2:18 area in practice too, recording a 2:18.398 on its second of 14 laps turned in the first practice session that same day.

Friday's two-and-a-half-hour race begins at 1 p.m. Eastern time. Live timing and scoring and a video feed will be available on imsa.com.

The race will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on Fox Sports 1 at 1 p.m. Eastern time March 19, and rebroadcast at 7:30 p.m. March 23 on Fox Sports 2.
