Doran-Lista Team Practices at VIR Friday
ALTON,
Va., Oct. 1 - The Doran-Lista team participated in practice
sessions
at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) Friday, posting
the 12th-fastest time
in the morning session and the eighth-fastest time in
the afternoon session.
The
Doran-Lista DORAN JE4 Lexus #27's fastest lap in the morning
was a
1:50.242 (106.783 mph). In the afternoon the car was even
faster, taking only
1:49.218 to cover the 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course for
an average speed of 107.784
mph.
The
practice sessions were delayed an hour due to fog in the
morning. It was
overcast all day, but sunshine is expected for the weekend.
The
Doran-Lista team has fielded the fastest car in both Rolex
series races
held here previously. In 2002 lead driver Didier Theys
set the fastest race lap
in the Doran-Lista Dallara Judd with a 1:39.618 (118.171
mph). Last year was
the first year for the new Daytona Prototype division
but the team again set
the fastest lap in the race here when Bill Auberlen was
clocked in 1:48.850
(108.149 mph) in the Doran-Lista DORAN JE4 Lexus.
This
weekend Andrea Montermini is Theys' co-driver. Today was
his first day
in a DORAN JE4 and also his first day driving at VIR.
Sunday's
race will be broadcast live on SPEED at noon Eastern time.
Quotes
follow:
Didier Theys: "We're just working on the set-up.
The team is working hard and
Andrea is learning the car and the track very quickly."
Andre
Montermini: "It's a new car and a new circuit for
me, and I'm enjoying
learning it. It is a very nice car and very nice people.
Now that I have one
day of practice in, I'm really focusing now on going faster.
It is important
to find out how we can make a good car for the race. Of
all the cars I've
driven, I'd say the DORAN JE4 is closest to the Ferrari
that I drove with this team
in the past. It is definitely different, but I am very
happy to be here and
back in a real race car again. This series is very competitive.
This is my
first time at VIR too. It is a little like Donnington
[in England] and a bit
like Laguna Seca too."
