Doran-Lista's Theys Qualifies Tenth Saturday
For Sunday's VIR 400 Rolex Series Race

ALTON, Va., Oct. 2 - Didier Theys of Scottsdale, Ariz. qualified tenth
Saturday afternoon for Sunday's VIR 400 presented by SunTrust at Virginia
International Raceway (VIR). The race, in which he'll be joined by co-driver Andrea
Montermini of Modena, Italy, will be broadcast live on SPEED at noon Eastern time.

Theys' fastest lap in the Doran-Lista DORAN JE4 Lexus #27 was clocked in
1:48.120 for an average speed of 108.879 mph.

The four DORAN JE4s were all in the top 10 and two of the four were in the
top five. The Michael Shank Racing DORAN JE4 Lexus was third; the Bell
Motorsports DORAN JE4 Pontiac was fourth and the G&W Motorsports DORAN JE4 BMW
qualified seventh.

The field is so tight that Theys' time was only 1.1 seconds off fifth place.
A total of 17 Daytona Prototypes are entered in the 40-car field scheduled to
start the two-hour-and-45-minute race tomorrow. Max Papis won the pole.

The start of Daytona Prototype qualifying was delayed Saturday while the
track was cleaned up from a crash that occurred in another class's qualifying
session. One of the cars involved dropped a lot of oil on the track, and the dust
from the oil-dry was extensive at the beginning of DP qualifying.

Theys went out at the start but then ducked into the pits to wait for some of
the dust to dissipate by the other cars on the course, hoping to get a
cleaner lap in later.

He did, but the lap that appeared like it was going to be his fastest was
spoiled when another driver blocked him in the final turn of the 3.27-mile,
17-turn course.

"The car was better than it was yesterday," Theys said. "The balance was OK
really. I didn't go out right away because there was dust all over the track
from the crash in the previous session. My tires came in by my third lap. The
problem was that on my last lap, which was going to be my flyer, JC France
blocked me in the last turn. I had to back off big time. That was the biggest
problem."
