FTN/Doran Racing's Borcheller Finishes Ninth
In Daytona Prototype Sprint
Friday Night at PIR

PHOENIX, May 12 - Terry Borcheller dodged a five-car wreck and also made a
nifty last-lap pass to finish ninth in the 30-minute Daytona Prototype sprint
race Friday night at Phoenix International Raceway in the Feeds the Need/Doran
Racing DORAN JE4 Ford No. 77.

It was the second-consecutive ninth-place finish for the car, which carries
the colors of the Kodak EasyShare System, Amp'd Mobile and SIRIUS.

Borcheller, formerly of North Phoenix and now of Vero Beach, Fla., held off
the point leader going into this race, the Ruby Tuesday No. 23, for the first
seven laps while in 11th place, and he had a big lead on that car when the
first yellow waved on lap eight for an errant traffic cone on the frontstretch.

The green flew again on lap 11, but as Borcheller approached Turn Seven
Christian Fittipaldi and Oswaldo Negri got together and Fittipaldi spun in front of
him.  Borcheller took evasive action to avoid him and was successful, but
four drivers behind him got caught up in the accident.  Besides Fittipaldi's
Crown Royal car, the others that were done for the evening were the Ruby Tuesday
No. 23, the Howard-Boss No. 4, the Derhaag Motorsports No. 40, and the Red
Bull/Brumos Porsche No. 58. Luckily no one was hurt.

The green waved again on lap 18 with two minutes left and Borcheller in tenth
place, but he passed Negri on the outside in Turn One on lap 19 to take the
checkered in ninth place with 20 laps completed in the time span.

The Lowe's Fernandez Racing car won.

Doran Racing was 11th in team points going into this event and unofficially
it's still in that spot after tonight's race. Again unofficially, it's just
eight points out of tenth place in points, which is held by the team that won
here tonight.

"I lost a couple of spots because I was bottled up on the inside for awhile,
but I thought it was fortunate that we missed the wreck and that we were able
to pass the No. 60 car," Borcheller said afterwards. "We're all pleased that
we made some valuable points tonight."

As far as the big wreck, Borcheller said, "All I saw was Christian spinning. 
I had to go through the gravel to miss him.  Four cars behind us got caught
up in it.  I thought we were fortunate to miss it."

Borcheller started 10th in this race, although he actually qualified 11th by
virtue of his time in the qualifying/practice session Friday afternoon. His
fastest lap in that session was a 58.132 (93.511 miles per hour), which was run
on his 18th lap.  That was just 0.88 of a second off the fastest time set in
the session, which was posted by the Lowe's Fernandez Racing team.  It also put
the Kodak car in 11th place overall on the combined practice report for the
two sessions run on Thursday and the one run today. 

Borcheller got to start tenth in Friday night's race, however, when the
seventh-fastest car, the Pacific Coast Motorsports No. 89, was penalized and had to
start at the rear because its team didn't submit its qualifying driver
nomination paperwork by the 5 p.m. Friday deadline.

Borcheller's co-driver, Harrison Brix of San Jose, Calif., will start ninth
in tomorrow's longer race here due to the team's results Friday night.

Borcheller was originally scheduled to also compete in the ALMS race in
Houston tonight, but he ended up not going to Texas because the car he was going to
drive wasn't quite ready.

The team was very pleased that long-time Doran Racing driver Didier Theys
visited with them in the pits and the paddock here Friday.  Theys and Borcheller,
along with Scott Pruett, Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor, are all tied for
third on the overall Rolex Series driver career victories list with nine
triumphs.  Only two other drivers have more overall race victories in the series:
James Weaver with 13 and Butch Leitzinger with 12.

Friday's 30-minute points race for Daytona Prototypes was part of the GAINSCO
Grand Prix weekend and its finish sets the top half of the starting line-up
for Saturday night's longer Rolex Series race for both Daytona Prototypes and
GT cars. That race will start at 7 p.m. local time and will be shown on SPEED
at 3 p.m. Eastern time Sunday.  The distance is 250 miles/166 laps or two hours
and 45 minutes, whichever comes first.
