Ricky Taylor Joins Burt Frisselle at Doran Racing

Star of the future, Ricky Taylor, has been signed to drive the No. 47 CDOC Roush-Yates Dallara with Burt Frisselle in Rolex Sports Car Series competition, starting with the EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio this weekend.

Taylor, the son of two-time Rolex 24 At Daytona champion Wayne Taylor, has two Daytona Prototype race starts to his credit after opening the year co-driving with his father in the 24 before delivering an impressive performance once again at Virginia International Raceway with Beyer Motorsports.

Frisselle had raced four 2008 Rolex Series events co-driving with 2005 FIA GT and 2006 LeMans Series GT1 Champion Gabrielle Gardel, who was disappointed with the team results and has decided to return to pursue racing opportunities in Europe.

“I am going to miss racing with Gabby, but I can understand his desire to get back to racing at home in Europe and I know he has some good options over there,” said Frisselle. “I’ve been friends with Ricky for a long time and have watched him moving up the same ladder I did to get to the Rolex Series and I know what he is capable of in the car, so I think he is going be a great co-driver. It’s almost hard to believe that even as young as I am, that I’m the elder driver in this car! But I know that we are going to be a strong combination and I’m really looking forward to running with Ricky.”

The No. 47 CDOC Ford-Dallara shined in an outstanding Mexico City debut, and the team is looking forward to maximizing the potential for the combination this weekend on the twisty 2.2-mile natural terrain road course in Mansfield, Ohio as the Rolex Series returns to the sprint racing format after the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in early June.

“I’m really excited to be getting this opportunity to race a Dallara with Burt for Doran Racing,” said the 18-year old Taylor, who scored a record five pole positions on his way to runner-up in the 2007 Skip Barber National Championship. “I’ve driven the Riley, the Crawford, and now I will get to race a Dallara and I am really excited about this combination. I learned a lot at Daytona and VIR, and I am just looking forward to getting going this weekend at Mid-Ohio. I know Burt is going to be a great teammate with his speed and his experience, so I am just looking forward to making the most out of this opportunity.”

The No. 47 is prepared by Doran Racing, which has a long history in the sport as a highly successful team entry. In addition, the Doran organization was responsible for designing, building, and supporting the Doran JE4, which won the inaugural Daytona Prototype Team and Driver Championships in 2003 and scored a victory in the 2004 Rolex 24 At Daytona on the way to establishing a significant competitive presence in the category.
