Doran Racing Is Ready for Today's CTSCC Season Opener at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 24 — An early red flag spoiled the Grand Sport class's qualifying session Thursday afternoon in IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge action at Daytona International Speedway. After a lengthy delay to tow in the errant Porsche Boxster most of the cars only completed one flying lap after the restart before time ran out, and most teams' qualifying results were seriously hampered due to the lack of time and heavy traffic.

Brad Jaeger was still able to get off a lap in 1:58.261 in the Doran Racing Nissan 370Z No. 14 that he'll share with BJ Zacharias in the 2-hour-and-30-minute race that starts today at 1:45 p.m. It was his second of only two laps around the 3.56-mile road course, and it puts the driver from Charlottesville, Va., in the 15th starting position for the season opener.

John Farano will start a team car, the Tower Events Nissan 370Z No. 41, at the back of the field in 62nd position overall and 27th in class. He had to serve a penalty for speeding on pit lane and due to the red flag he never even got to record a qualifying lap with his car, which he'll share with fellow Toronto driver David Empringham.

Friday morning all four drivers got time behind the wheel for the fourth and final practice session before the race. The team ended up 11th and 12th in that session. Empringham was 11th in the No. 41 with a 1:56.922, while Zacharias was 12th in the No. 14 with a 1:56.972.

Both cars were very close and very consistent in all four practice sessions. So far the fastest lap turned by the team for this event was the 1:56.695 set in Practice 2 on Wednesday by the No. 41 car, which was the seventh-fastest time set in that session.
